Pool and Spa Replaster With New Tile, Coping, Waterfall, and Fire Bowls

A pool and spa renovation gets more involved when water features and fire features are part of the plan. Instead of just refinishing surfaces, the project has to account for how the pool, the spa, the waterfall, and the fire bowls all relate to each other, both visually and functionally.

Replastering Pool and Spa Together

When a pool and an attached spa both get replastered, doing them at the same time means the color and finish match exactly, with no visible difference between the two bodies of water. This matters especially around the spillway, where water flows from the spa into the pool, since that is where any mismatch would be most visible.

New Tile and Coping

New tile at the waterline of both the pool and spa, along with new coping around both, gets coordinated as part of the same design. The spa often gets slightly different tile detailing than the pool, since it is a more intimate space that people sit closer to, but the overall palette needs to feel connected.

Waterfall Features

A waterfall, often built into a raised wall between the spa and pool or along one edge, adds movement and sound to the space. During a renovation, this is a chance to update or add a waterfall feature, and to make sure the plumbing and pump sizing are right for the flow rate that will look and sound the way the homeowner wants.

Fire Bowls

Fire bowls integrated into a raised wall, often near or combined with a waterfall feature, add a visual element that works day and night but really stands out after dark. Adding fire features during a renovation means running gas lines and coordinating the placement with the waterfall and lighting design so everything works together rather than competing for attention.

Spray Deck to Finish It Off

A new spray deck finish around the whole pool and spa area ties everything together. With new plaster, tile, coping, a waterfall, and fire bowls all getting updated, the deck finish needs to complement all of these elements rather than being an afterthought.

The Result

Projects like this transform a pool and spa from a basic setup into a backyard space with real ambiance, day or night. The key to getting it right is planning all of these elements together from the start, rather than adding them one at a time, so the finished result feels like one cohesive design.
