Time to Start Thinking About Summer: When to Begin a Pool Project

Every year, we get calls in May and June from homeowners hoping to have a new pool ready for summer. Unfortunately, by that point, the math usually does not work out. If a finished pool by summer is the goal, the planning needs to start months ahead of time, and understanding the timeline now can make the difference between swimming in your new pool this year or waiting until next.

Why Pool Projects Take Time

A typical pool build, from signed contract to finished pool, takes a number of weeks once construction starts, but construction is only part of the timeline. Before that, there is the design process, permitting, and scheduling, all of which take time on their own. Permitting alone, depending on the city or county and whether an HOA is involved, can take several weeks.

The Free Planning Steps Come First

Our process starts with a free discovery call, followed by a free site visit and survey. From there, we put together a custom proposal, and most homeowners go through one or two rounds of refinements before signing off. None of this costs anything, and you do not pay until you sign the contract, but it does take time, especially if there are design decisions to work through.

Working Backward From Summer

If the goal is to be swimming by early summer, that means construction needs to start in late winter or early spring, which means contracts need to be signed by late winter, which means the design and proposal process needs to start even earlier. Working backward like this is the best way to figure out when to reach out.

Permitting timelines and weather can both add variability, so building in some buffer time is smart. A project that starts early has more room to absorb a few rainy weeks without pushing the finish date past when you wanted to start using the pool.

What Happens If You Start Later

Starting later in the year is not a problem, it just means the pool may not be ready until later in the summer or into fall. For some homeowners, that is fine, especially if the goal is to have the pool ready for next year rather than this one. The important thing is understanding where you are in the timeline so there are no surprises about when the pool will actually be usable.

The Best Time to Reach Out Is Now

Whatever time of year it is when you are reading this, the best time to start the planning process is as soon as the idea becomes real for you. The free discovery call and site visit do not commit you to anything, but they do start the clock on a process that takes time to work through properly.
