Pool Sandblasting, Coping Repair, Plaster and Deck Painting in Houston and Katy TX

When a pool starts showing visible wear — stained surfaces, cracked coping, faded deck — it does not always need a full replacement. In many cases a targeted restoration can bring it back to like-new condition at a fraction of the cost. This is exactly the kind of project CHR Builder specializes in across Houston, Katy, and surrounding Texas communities.

In this project we completed a full pool restoration that included sandblasting, coping repair, new plaster, and deck painting. Here is everything we did from start to finish.

Step 1 — Drain and Inspect

The first step of any pool restoration is draining the pool completely. Once empty our team does a thorough inspection of every surface — walls, floor, coping, and deck — to identify all areas that need attention and create a complete restoration plan before any work begins.

Step 2 — Pool Sandblasting

Years of calcium buildup, mineral deposits, and hard water staining had left the pool surfaces rough and discolored. Chemical treatments were not enough to restore the surfaces to their original condition.

We used professional sandblasting equipment to remove all calcium deposits, scale, and staining from the pool walls and floor. Sandblasting is the most effective way to clean pool surfaces because it physically removes the buildup at the source — leaving a clean, smooth surface ready for new plaster.

In Houston and Katy TX hard water is one of the biggest challenges pool owners face. Calcium and mineral deposits build up faster here than in other parts of the country — making professional sandblasting an essential part of any pool restoration.

Step 3 — Coping Repair

The coping around the pool had cracked and started to separate — a common issue in Texas where soil movement, heat expansion, and heavy rain put constant stress on pool edges.

We removed all damaged coping sections and replaced them with new coping that matches the original design — creating a clean, finished edge that protects the pool shell and looks great from every angle.

Coping repair is not just cosmetic — damaged coping can allow water to get behind the shell and cause larger structural issues over time. Fixing it early saves money in the long run.

Step 4 — New Plaster Application

With the surfaces clean and the coping repaired, we applied a fresh new plaster finish across the entire pool — walls, floor, steps, and benches.

New plaster gives the pool a smooth, clean surface that protects the gunite shell, feels comfortable underfoot, and gives the water that clear, bright color that makes a pool look brand new.

Step 5 — Deck Painting

The pool deck was faded, worn, and disconnected from the fresh look of the newly restored pool. We applied a professional deck paint coating around the entire pool area — giving the deck a clean, uniform finish that ties the whole backyard together.

Deck painting is a fast and cost-effective way to refresh the look of your pool area without the expense of a full spray deck resurfacing.

The Result

What started as a worn-out, dated pool ended as a clean, fresh backyard retreat that looks and performs like new. Every surface was addressed — sandblasting, coping, plaster, and deck — giving the homeowner a pool that is safe, comfortable, and ready for years of enjoyment.
